Ras Al Khaimah city

Ras Al Khaimah's city is built around a creek with the old town on one side and the new on the other, and the Hajar mountains rise directly behind it — which is what makes it the base for the country's highest road. Pearling was the emirate's trade before oil, and a farm on the creek still seeds and harvests by hand.

What marks it out

  • The National Museum, in the fort above the creek
  • Dhayah Fort, the last hilltop fort of its kind in the country
  • A working pearl farm on the creek

Getting there

About seventy-five minutes from Dubai, and the emirate has its own international airport.
