The Hajar Mountains

The Hajar range runs down the eastern side of the peninsula and separates the Arabian Gulf coast from the Gulf of Oman. Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah is the highest point in the United Arab Emirates at 1,934 m, reached on a paved road with viewing platforms, and the summit is reliably about ten degrees cooler than the coast.

What marks it out

  • Jebel Jais, 1,934 m, on a paved summit road
  • The world's longest zipline, about 2.83 km
  • Wadi walks in the cool season, with water in some of them

Getting there

Ninety minutes from Ras Al Khaimah city to the summit; the road is sealed and steep, and there is no fuel at the top.
