The smallest emirate by area, and the easiest to read in a single day: a fort museum, a corniche you can walk end to end, dhow yards where hulls are still shaped by eye, and a protected lagoon full of flamingos.
Getting there
No airport of its own: about 25 minutes from Sharjah International and under an hour from Dubai.
When to go
October to April. Early morning is the hour for the lagoon, when the birds feed and the water is still.

Beaches here are public and free for long stretches, which is rare on this coast.
