Mleiha

Mleiha is the inland desert of Sharjah, and it is an archaeological landscape rather than a dune playground: excavation there has traced human presence back around 130,000 years, alongside Bronze Age tombs and a pre-Islamic fort. The interpretation centre is built into the ground beside the sites it explains.

What marks it out

  • The archaeological centre, built into the ground
  • Bronze Age tombs and a pre-Islamic fort
  • Fossil rock and Faya, best in the last light

Getting there

An hour from Dubai on the Sharjah–Kalba road, and the last stretch is signposted desert track.
